POLYKAR COMPLETES EXPANSION OF RECYCLING DEPARTMENT

INCREASING POST-COMMERCIAL AND POST-INDUSTRIAL RECYCLING CAPACITY TO 10,000 TONS ANNUALLY TO MEET GREATER DEMAND AND DIVERT MORE PLASTIC WASTE AWAY FROM LANDFILLS

MONTREAL, Canada—June 29, 2020 - Polykar, a Quebec-based North American leader in sustainable flexible packaging, today announced the completion of its expansion of their recycling department for flexible packaging at the Ville Saint-Laurent plant.

The department now features state-of-the-art EREMA recycling machines and supplementary equipment to enable 10,000 tons of post-commercial and post-industrial plastic film waste to be recycled and reused annually.

“Our additional expansion effectively gives us the most modern and efficient flexible film recycling plant currently operating in the province. It also becomes a major competitive advantage for our recycled garbage bag business,” said Amir Karim, President and CEO of Polykar.

Polykar has been recycling post-industrial and post-commercial plastic films for more than a decade. This has ensured the continued use of recycled resins at Polykar across its recycled garbage bag product portfolio.

The company remains committed to sustainable practices that minimize plastic waste pollution. Staying true to this promise, the CAD $2 million additional investment allows Polykar to recycle more complex materials such as stretch films and specific barrier and laminated films, which were until now sent directly to landfills.

Polykar continues to engage in partnerships with global polyethylene suppliers and end users to recycle and reuse recycled packaging, giving the material a second life. To learn more about how you can partner with Polykar’s Recycling Department,
