Job description

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will hold an autonomous role providing support and supervision to the Finance Department. Working in a stimulating environment, your experience will demonstrate support all accounting and financial operations. This position is located in Edmonton, AB at Polykar’s new facility currently under construction. Full training will be provided at our Montreal, QC offices for a period of 6 to 12 months.


  • Participate in daily accounting operations for all the different accounting cycles
  • Assist the CFO in overseeing all accounting operations
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly budget analysis and variances related to reporting
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual audit files and other profit, financial management and analysis reports
  • Ensure that internal controls are in accordance with company policies and procedures, ensure their effectiveness and suggest any improvements to be made
  • Support the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts for expansion and investment projects
  • Support the preparation of R&D claims as well as claims for government assistance related to investment projects
  • Participate in the evaluation of financial reporting systems, accounting practices and investment initiatives and propose improvements to processes, operating systems, budgets and other financial functions of the company
  • Optimize the organization, processes and resources used in the context of daily work
  • Assist in managing employees of the Finance Department at the Edmonton office


  • Professional designation CPA or CPA, CA required
  • Experience in financial accounting and accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE)
  • Minimum 3 (three) years of experience in a firm of chartered accountants ("big 4" an asset)
  • Advanced skills in Excel
  • Strong skillsets in organization, responsibilities and priorities
  • Autonomous and professional work ethic
  • Bilingual - French and English
  • Knowledge / experience of ERP systems (an asset)
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector (an asset)
  • Willing to travel every trimester to Montreal
  • Willing to relocate to Edmonton, AB
