Co-founded by Elyse Damdjee and Aziz Karim in 1987, Polykar is a family enterprise that has become one of the leading manufacturers of industrial, commercial and institutional garbage bags and food packaging in Canada. The company has also developed expertise in making compostable bags and recycling plastics.
Polykar is based in Saint-Laurent, Québec, and sells its products to distributors of sanitation products, food products and packaging across Canada. The company is a supplier to major buying groups that include Adapt, Balpex, Colabor, Dissan, Itwal and Wood Wyant.
Polykar is an engaged industry participant and is a member of the Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA - http://www.plastics.ca/), the Canadian Sanitation Supply Association (CSSA - http://cssa.com/), the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB - http://www.cfib-fcei.ca/), and the Compost Council of Canada (CCC - http://www.compost.org/).

Polykar also received the highest award - Level Gold - of the ICI ON RECYCLE! programme in 2015, from the public company Recyc-Québec for excellence in waste management. The company received its first such award in 2009.
In 2013, Polykar’s office building and production facility became the proud recipient of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification Status from the Canada Green Building Council (http://www.cagbc.org/).
