AMIR KARIM, VP BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IS APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF CANADIAN PLASTICS INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION (CPIA)

Mississauga, ON–At the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA), Polykar’s Vice President of Business Development, Amir Karim, was duly elected Chairman of CPIA for a two-year term. Amir becomes Chairman following his tenure as vice-chair of the association since 2010.

Based in Mississauga, Ontario, the CPIA is the national voice of the Canadian Plastics Industry. With nearly 2,500 companies from coast to coast, employing close to 80,000 workers, Canada’s $20 billion plastics industry is a sophisticated, multi-faceted sector encompassing plastic products manufacturing, machinery, moulds, and resins. CPIA strives to communicate the facts behind plastics’ manufacturing and use – from the material’s economic, social and environmental contributions to the size and strength of the Canadian manufacturing sector. In addition, CPIA is committed to increasing the amount of plastic and the different types of plastic waste being diverted from landfill through the use of various waste management options, such as reuse, recycle and energy recovery. Finally, CPIA prides itself on efficiently and effectively promoting and protecting plastics across North America, as well as bringing together leaders in the industry to share ideas, discuss business opportunities, and promote trade and innovation.

Following his nomination, Amir Karim said, “I am really humbled by the trust my fellow members at CPIA have placed in me to lead this organization. I am a strong believer in the importance of industry engagement, and am convinced that collectively, we can better address the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead. I also would like to take this opportunity to invite other leaders in the plastics industry who are not yet involved with the CPIA to do so, and help us continue to make our mark in enhancing the reputation of plastics, and in  innovating and growing our industry for the future.”
