Montreal, QC, 15 August 2018 – Polykar is pleased to announce the formation of an Executive Management Team and make the following appointments:  

Allan Wood, CPA, CA, Chief Operating Officer
Allan joined Polykar in 2016 as its Chief Financial Officer. He is a chartered professional accountant with a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Over the last ten years, Allan has held senior accounting positions in Australia and Canada in both private and public sector companies. At Polykar, Allan has demonstrated a deep interest and talent for managing different aspects of the business, and as COO will be overseeing all departments with a focus on operational efficiency.

Melissa Benoît, CPA, CA, Chief Financial Officer

Bringing a solid background in financial auditing from across the private and public sectors, Melissa joined the Polykar team as its new CFO earlier this month. She holds a Bachelor’s degree and Higher Diploma, both in Accountancy, from HEC Montréal. Melissa possesses management expertise across multiple sectors, including business development and growth strategy. She has most recently completed several private sector financial auditing projects in London, UK.


Randy Shermet, Vice-President Sales and Business Development
With a wealth of experience of more than 25 years in the Canadian plastics and chemical industries, Randy made his mark in industry with senior positions at Arkema Canada, including as President and CEO, as well as at the Canadian Plastics Industry Association, Fielding Chemical Technologies and FusionCast. Randy joined Polykar in early 2015 as the company entered the polyethylene converter film market, and became Vice President of Sales and Business Development in 2016. Randy received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Western University, ON and his MBA from City University, Seattle, WA.

Mirella Ighnatios, CHRP, Director of Human Capital and Corporate Culture
Mirella has more than five years experience in organizational development, talent management and employee engagement. She graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor in Political Science and took graduate classes at Universitéde Montréal in Industrial Relations. Mirella is a member of the Ordre des ressources humaines agrées and is responsible for harnessing the potential of every employee at Polykar, creating the safest work environment and nurturing a corporate culture embodying entrepreneurial thinking coupled with excellence and integrity.

Julien Leger, Director of Production
Julien joined Polykar in 2014 - when Polykar entered the converter film market – bringing more than 15 years of plastics industry experience in production planning, inventory, scheduling and people management. Julien has a Bachelor’s degree in Science (Mathematics) from Université de Moncton and holds an MBA from Université Laval. He is also professionally accredited in Production and Inventory Management by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS). Julien’s primary role is the management of the co-extrusion film and food packaging departments.


Dana Aghaby, Director of Production

Dana graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor in Civil Engineering. Over the last decade she has gained diverse technical and managerial expertise with a major national consulting firm. Dana joined Polykar in January of this year and is primarily responsible for all monolayer extrusion film and bag production.


This new leadership team brings together diverse experiences and professional strengths that will support the new strategic direction of Polykar and help propel its organizational success. “I am looking forward to collaborating with this diverse and talented executive team, which I am confident will help Polykar deliver even further on our priority areas of business growth, process optimization and responding to the future needs of our market.” said Amir Karim, President and CEO.
