Systems Administrator

City : Edmonton or Montréal

Job description

Reporting to the COO, the Systems Administrator will design, create, and monitor the implementation of end-to-end integrated systems using a large variety of technologies. As a “hands-on” leader, they are responsible for maintaining the IT network and storage infrastructure across the Polykar locations (Edmonton and Montreal) and completing associated projects. They will ensure that all planned and in-place IT support systems are aligned with yearly and long-term goals. This position can be located in either Edmonton or Montreal.

Responsibilities

NETWORK & SECURITY

  • Maintain essential IT operations including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers (including server setup for new plant in Alberta), email systems, laptops, desktops, software and hardware
  • Network design and documentation, ensuring IT platform consistency across the sites
  • Implements security improvements by assessing current situation; evaluating trends; anticipating requirements
  • Protects system by defining access privileges, control structures, and resources
  • Resolve problems and liaise with employees to find ways to continually improve processes
  • Provide innovative and effective technology solutions, making recommendations of processes and technologies that will improve efficiency and effectiveness to the team
  • Develop and execute disaster procedures, and maintain data backups
  • Manage and support the business’ work from home requirements ensuring that all employees have a stable and reliable connection to corporate resources
  • ERP SOLUTIONS & REPORTING

  • Crystal reports and business intelligence report writing
  • Providing business solutions to the organization using IT capabilities and SQL query writing, to effectively deliver and optimize results
  • Full set up and integration of a state-of-the-art automated manufacturing site including machine sensors, printers, shop floor data control and logistic setups
  • Assess new opportunities and prepare proposals for innovative ways to automate Polykar processes and practices
  • Requirements

    • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or relevant qualification
    • Minimum 5+ years’ experience managing IT Infrastructure
    • Previous experience managing IT within a manufacturing environment is required
    • Experience in SQL, crystal reports reporting and large integrated ERP systems
    • Above-average analytical and troubleshooting abilities
    • Proven experience identifying, analyzing, and resolving system problems
    • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing in English
    • Communication skills both verbally and in writing in French are a strong asset
    • Proven experience developing strategic network enterprise architecture plans with an emphasis on security
    • Comprehensive knowledge of key operating systems (Microsoft, ERP systems)
    • Extensive knowledge of network security, firewall, and anti-virus technology and systems
    • Willingness and ability to travel between office locations within Alberta and Quebec. Candidates must be fully vaccinated to travel to Montreal (Government of Canada requirement)
