Polykar Invests $20 Million to Double its Capacity in Edmonton

Edmonton, AB – Thursday, October 9, 2025 – Polykar, a leading Canadian manufacturer of sustainable packaging solutions, today announced a $20 million expansion of its Edmonton facility that will double production capacity and create 25 permanent jobs. The investment highlights the company’s strong commitment to growth, innovation, and supporting the region’s thriving business community.

With this new investment, supported by recent strategic equity contributions of MontClerc Capital, Polykar will add another 50,000 square feet of modern production space, expected to increase output to 40 million pounds annually by the fall of 2026.

The company’s Edmonton facility quickly became a hub of advanced manufacturing and sustainable packaging, recycling more than three million pounds of Alberta plastic waste annually and supporting Alberta’s circular plastics economy.

“Since opening our Edmonton facility, Polykar has experienced steady growth, and less than three years later we’re ready to expand again,” said Amir Karim, President & CEO of Polykar. “We’re also grateful to partners like the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Global, and the Alberta Government, whose unwavering collaboration, support and guidance have been invaluable in helping us connect and grow in the city.”

The expansion reflects Polykar’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility, cutting-edge solutions, and strengthening the plastics value chain in Alberta.

“Alberta’s government continues to attract job-creating investment through strategic support from the Investment and Growth Fund along with our business-friendly policies, commitment to cut red tape and low tax regime. The fact is, Alberta remains the best place to do business and we prove that again and again with new investments like the one with Polykar,” said Joseph Schow, Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration.

Polykar initially invested $40 million in 2019 to establish its Edmonton region facility.

“Polykar's $20 million expansion is a major vote of confidence in our local economy. I was honoured to attend their facility opening back in December 2022, and their rapid success, with their creation of an additional 25 more jobs proves that Edmonton is a city where sustainable manufacturing can thrive. We look forward to their continued growth and innovation," added Amarjeet Sohi, Mayor of Edmonton.

“Edmonton Global is proud to see companies like Polykar deepen their roots in our region. Their continued commitment to community engagement — through partnerships with our post-secondary institutions and contributions to local initiatives — shows how investment attraction strengthens not just our economy, but our communities,” explained Malcolm Bruce, CEO, Edmonton Global.
